EGI’s Bharath Jairaj will be a panelist at the upcoming “India Urban Conference: Land, Housing, and Infrastructure” in Mysore, Karnataka, India on November 18-19th. The forum brings together policymakers, academics, industry players, and civil society stakeholders to discuss the changing climate of India’s urban development, and brainstorm potential solutions. The conference aims to find ways to bring about a better political, bureaucratic, and market environment for better integration of housing, land, and infrastructure decisions (such as electricity). Furthermore, the conference will seek to integrate the perspective of the household/individual with that of the macro-economy.
Bharath Jairaj will be on the panel “Infrastructure & Sustainability” that focuses on better understanding the effects of the development of key infrastructures, and how that could feed into decision-making processes. The panel will feature speakers from 4 different sectors including water, transport, sanitation, and electricity. Unique ecological effects arise as these various urban sectors intersect, and this panel will examine how these are or are not taken into account in planning and implementation of policy.
The workshop is co-hosted by the Indian Institute for Human Settlements, Yale University, and the Centre for Citizenship and Democracy.
