New Energy Act in Thailand

The Electricity Governance Initiative's analysis and partners have contributed to a new Energy Industry Act in Thailand that confirms the importance of public participation in decision-making and establishes a new independent electricity regulator.

Thai government awards power plant licenses

The Thai government awarded licenses to construct four new power plants earlier this month. Glow Energy, Thai Oil, and the Japan’s Electric Power (J-Power). The four plants will produce around 4,400 MW of power. Glow will construct a 660-MW coal-fired plant, Thai Oil will build a 540-MW coal-fired plant, and J-Power will construct two 1,600-MW gas-fired plants.

EGI will host a side event at Bali COP, December 7

The Electricity Governance Initiative will host a side event at the 13th Meeting of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Bali, Indonesia, on December 7 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (location TBA).

25th Annual ASEAN Energy Ministerial Meetings

In August, the Electricity Governance Initiative participated in the 25th Annual Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Energy Ministerial Meetings hosted by the government of Singapore. Smita Nakhooda presented the work of the Initiative and the findings of our report Empowering People to senior energy sector officials as part of an extended session on the power sector of the ASEAN Business Forum.
